The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced on Wednesday that China has successfully completed the initial phase of its 6G technology trials, accumulating over 300 core technologies. This achievement reflects ongoing efforts by policymakers to advance the nation’s information and communications technology capabilities.
Xie Cun, Director of the Information and Communication Development Department at the Ministry, stated during a press conference in Beijing that the second phase of 6G technology trials is now underway. He noted that China currently operates 4.838 million 5G base stations and serves more than 1.2 billion 5G users, representing 42 percent of global declarations of standard-essential 5G patents. According to Xie, this establishes China as having the largest and most advanced information infrastructure worldwide.
Looking ahead, the Ministry intends to further accelerate research and development in 6G, proactively plan for future advancements, and cultivate an application-driven industrial ecosystem to support 6G technologies.
