Dr Patrice Motsepe , the founder of diversified mining company African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), has retired from his position as executive chairperson and as an employee of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed company with effect from and including February 16. This transition aligns with best governance practices and enables Dr Motsepe to concentrate on providing strategic oversight while the executive team handles the day-to-day operations of ARM. The change is significant as it ensures that ARM continues to maintain high standards of corporate governance and benefits from Dr Motsepe’s broad industry perspective in his new role.
He will continue to be a director of the company and will serve as the non-executive chairperson of the board in compliance with the stock exchange’s listings requirements.
“I look forward to continue contributing to the global competitiveness of ARM in my new capacity as non-executive chairman,” Motsepe stated in a stock exchange news service announcement.
Jacques van der Bijl has been appointed as ARM’s new COO, also with effect from February 16. Jacques van der Bijl has over 20 years of experience in mining operations and has played a key role in several of ARM’s successful projects, further strengthening the company’s leadership team.
“I have undertaken my new role as non-executive chairman to ensure compliance with the listings requirements. I would also like to welcome Jacques to his new role as chief operating officer of ARM. Jacques is a world-class mining engineer and has been working for ARM for many years. ARM remains committed and focused on creating value for its shareholders and benefitting its stakeholders,” Motsepe added.
