Hydraulics Laboratory Opens in Mellansel
Hydraulic direct drive specialist Hägglunds, a part of Bosch Rexroth, has announced the official opening of its new hydraulics laboratory in Mellansel, Sweden. The company is known for its hydraulic systems, which consist of a hydraulic motor paired with a flexibly located drive unit, all managed by an advanced control and monitoring system. These systems are particularly prevalent in the mining industry, where they are integral to equipment such as large apron feeders, bucketwheel reclaimers, and conveyors.
In a statement, Hägglunds emphasised the significance of this new investment, describing it as a major advancement that strengthens the company’s commitment to innovation in direct drive technology. The laboratory covers 1,500 square metres and features four newly equipped test cells and a brand new pump room. It also incorporates a cutting-edge, custom-developed control system, which enables full-scale testing of Hägglunds motors.
Daniel Kajhager, Head of Research and Development, highlighted the critical roles of the pump room and control system: “The pump room is the heart, and the control system is the brain. Together, they give us entirely new capabilities to test, measure, and produce the data our customers need to make their investment decisions.”
The design of the laboratory prioritises energy efficiency, with anticipated energy savings of 200 MWh annually. Additionally, the facility is built to accommodate future technological needs, providing a platform to develop solutions for emerging industry challenges.
Among its key features, the laboratory offers both full-scale and modular testing capabilities, supported by four advanced test cells that allow for flexible motor setups. The new control system delivers precise data compatible with AI systems and computational models. The facility itself is purpose-built to be ergonomic and safe, ensuring a secure and efficient working environment for staff.
